Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
Replacement of Whitevale Bridge on Whitevale Road over West Duffins Creek
The City of Pickering has initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to assess alternatives for the replacement of the Whitevale Bridge on Whitevale Road over West Duffins Creek. Replacement of the Whitevale Bridge is required to address structural and safety deficiencies identified by the City.
The City has retained SRM Associates to complete the Class EA Study. The study is proceeding in accordance with ‘Schedule B’ of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (June 2000, as amended in October 2007). The study will confirm the issues, problems and opportunities, and re-confirm the scope of potential project impacts for the replacement of the bridge, identify alternative solutions to the defined problems and opportunities, and select a preferred solution. The alternative solutions will consider the effects on engineering and public safety and on the natural, social, economic and cultural environment.
Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI) Class Environmental Assessment
MOI has landholdings within the study area; these landholdings are identified on the Key Map above (locations approximate). These lands may be considered for disposition (e.g. easements or transfers) based on the preferred solution(s) recommended in the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study.
Projects proposed within MOI lands will be assessed in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Infrastructure (MOI) Class Environmental Assessment Process for Realty (Non-Electricity Projects).
Consultation
The purpose of the Public Information Centre (PIC) is to introduce the study, answer questions regarding the project, consult on the alternative solutions and preliminary preferred solution, and solicit comments. The PIC will consist of two informal drop-in sessions displaying the same materials as follows:
Date: Wednesday February 16, 2011
